After the Introduction to Norse Mythology and to mythology creatures, now I turned towards Greek mythology. But don't worry, I didn't gave up the Norse yet. In today's hub I'll tell you about a famous story of Orpheus and Eurydice.

Orpheus was son of Thrax the man who was the greatest singer, musician and poet at that time. Orpheus had his first lessons in singing and playing from the God Apollo. Apollo gave him a lyre with seven strings and Orpheus added to lyre two strings more to sound more brighter.

The biggest part of life Orpheus spent in Thrace as king of Macedonians. They considered him the inventor of writing, farming and other useful things. The power of Orpheus songs and playing was miraculous. As he sang, a flock of birds circled above his head, the fish were jumping out of the sea and rivers stop the flow. Orpheus song meltedeven strict judges of the dead when he went to save Eurydice.

Death of Orpheus shook the whole nature. There were a lots of theories on a way he died. Some said that his closest killed him because he couldn't save Eurydice. And some said that he was ambushed by his Macedonians. Anyway the great story of Orpheus and Eurydice still remains to be the secret and that's the beauty of this myth.

Here's the short film about it.

Eurydice was a nymph and later wife of the famous Thracian singer Orpheus.
On the day of Orpheus and Eurydice's wedding. God ''Hymens'' flared their hands which was a sign of disaster that will befall the spouses. Shortly after her marriage, while she was walking with her friends she was bitten by snake, and soon she died.

Orpheus couldn't get over the death of beloved wife, so he went to Hades to bring her to life. His sad songs made the hearts of the dead rulers very sad so they allowed him to bring Eurydice to life. But Gods said that he musn't see her until she exits the Hades. Eurydice was going for the sounds of the lyre of Orpheus. Before the exit Orpheus saw her so she ''returned'' to Hades. Orpheus was sad and after a few months he died mysteriously.

I remember Orpheus and Euridyce from high school - literature (The Death Of Eurydice, Book X of Metamorphoses by Ovid) and music - operas (C. Monteverdi, L'Orfeo).

I like the photos you chose for this article :)
