After my hub on Norse mythology, I decided to go further. Since I'm big fan of fantasy, I'll write about some cute and some scary creatures that you must be familiar with. For some creatures that I'll mention you already heard on a movie or you read in some fantasy novel by J.R.R Tolkien.

Unicorn- is a white horse with a horn on its forehead. It is believed that one who kills the creature and drinks his blood will be damned forever. In addition, it is believed that his blood can save a dying man and save the person who's doomed for damnation. Powder made from its horn is considered a miracle cure for all diseases.

Vampires

Rusalka - was a female ghost, water nymph and mermaid (demon who lived in the lake). One version describes her as the spirit of young women who died in the lake. Rusalka was not always evil, she can rest in peace only if her death was avenged. Rusalka became a symbol of woman who died violently or a woman who committed suicide due to fraud of a lover.

Vampires - are dead men who rise from the graves at night and suck the blood of humans. In some mythologies they have magic and they are supernatural. Vampire is often a vicious man. And anyone can become one if another vampire bites him and sucks his blood.

Elfs - Norwegian mythology tells us that the worms which have emerged from the corpse of the giant Ymir, converted into the dark and the Holy elfs. Holy elfs lived in the air and they were happy creatures. Dark elfs, who lived in underground were black, wicked and pest.

Top 10 Famous Mythical Creatures

Orcs- in Germanic mythology they were a massive barbaric humanoid creatures with green skin, pointed ears and black hair. They had no eyebrows and people called them Goblins. Orcs are in traditions beasts that destroy everything before them and they're eternal enemies of the people.

Fairies- mythological women of unusual beauty, endowed with magical powers. The myths of fairies are part of folklore of many European nations, especially represented in the Celtic and Slavic mythology. They are described as eternally young women with luxuriant hair, sometimes dressed in long whiteairy dresses. People believed that they live underground or in the vicinity of the old dunes, caves and springs.

I learned about orcs while watching The Lord of the Rings (plan to read the books in the future) - my hubbie told me all about them :) The guy on your photo above looks just like Gimli, the dwarf (also German mythology).
